Emergency and Evacuation Plan
v2.1
Purpose. This plan tells staff what to do in a fire, chemical spill, medical emergency, threatening behaviour or power failure at any Luxe site.
1.Emergency roles
Each site has a chief warden, a deputy warden and a first aider on every shift, shown on the roster. The chief warden makes the decision to evacuate and accounts for everyone at the assembly point. All staff must know the location of the exits, the fire extinguishers, the spill kit, the first aid kit and the assembly point for their site.
2.Fire
On discovering a fire, staff must raise the alarm, alert the chief warden and, if it is safe and the fire is small, use the nearest extinguisher. Clients mid-service, including those with colour processing or under a dryer, must be evacuated as they are; a towel is placed over chemical product and the client is escorted out. Nobody returns to the building until the fire service gives the all clear.
- Raise the alarm and call emergency services
- Evacuate clients as they are, chemical product covered with a towel
- Chief warden checks bathrooms, treatment rooms and staff room
- Assemble at the nominated point and complete the roll call
3.Chemical spill or fumes
For a small spill, staff must use the spill kit and ventilate the area. For a large spill or strong fumes, staff must move clients away, open doors and windows, and leave the area until the air is clear. The Chemical Handling and Colour Bar Procedure applies and the event must be recorded in the incident register.
4.Medical emergency
The first aider must be called to any collapse, allergic reaction, burn, severe cut or fainting. For any breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or lips, or chest pain, staff must call an ambulance first and then the first aider. A client's emergency contact from the client record must be contacted where the client is unable to do so.
5.Aggressive or threatening behaviour
Staff must not argue with or restrain an aggressive person. They must move other clients away, call the floor leader and, if the threat continues, call the police and leave the area. The event must be recorded on the Incident and Hazard Report Form and the client record flagged.
6.Drills and review
Each site will run an evacuation drill every six months and record the time taken and any issues in the incident register. This plan will be reviewed after every drill and every real emergency.
