The situation

What has happened

Wednesday 16 September is the busiest colour day of the month at South Yarra, with six foil services and two on-scalp bleaches booked before lunch. The Salon Manager will be mixing at the colour bar from 8:30 am and needs the basins, towels, gowns, treatment products and the colour bar ready and hygienic before the first client arrives. He also needs you to shampoo, treat and prepare his first two clients while he is mixing. A recent hazard entry in the incident register found peroxide and bleach powder stored on the same shelf, and the stock register shows bleach powder close to its reorder point.

Your brief. Prepare and sanitise the basin area and colour bar to the chemical handling and infection control standards, deliver two shampoo and treatment services safely, check stock and storage, and report what you find.

What to look for

Evidence guide

Evidence must show the student can identify the storage rule for peroxide and bleach, use the right protective equipment, disinfect non-critical items between clients and read a client card before a basin service. Check the stock register updates are accurate and the report separates what was corrected from what was escalated. Observe basin technique and client comfort checks where the assessment is live.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
