Work Health and Safety Policy
v2.4
Purpose. This policy states the commitment of Luxe to a safe salon, barbershop and clinic environment and sets out who is responsible for what.
1.Commitment
Luxe will provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of workers, clients and visitors, so far as is reasonably practicable. The business will meet its duties under work health and safety law and will consult workers on matters that affect their health and safety. Safety sits ahead of speed and sales in every decision on the floor.
2.Salon and clinic hazards
The main hazards in personal services work are well understood and must be controlled at every site. Managers must ensure controls are in place before a service is offered and workers must use them.
- Chemical exposure from colour, bleach, peroxide, relaxers and nail products
- Dermatitis from wet work and chemical contact
- Musculoskeletal strain from standing, reaching and repetitive cutting
- Cuts, burns from tools and hot wax, and needle stick injuries
- Slips on wet floors and hair clippings
- Electrical risk from dryers, irons and clippers
- Aggressive or distressed clients
3.Responsibilities
The General Manager holds overall accountability and will resource safety controls. Site leaders must complete daily floor checks, maintain equipment and act on hazards reported by their team. Every worker must follow procedures, wear the protective equipment provided, report hazards and incidents on the day, and never work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
4.Consultation
Each site has a nominated health and safety representative elected by the workers. Safety is a standing item at the monthly team meeting and the compliance walk includes a worker from the floor. Workers can raise a hazard with any leader at any time and will not be disadvantaged for doing so.
5.Incident reporting
All injuries, near misses, chemical reactions, needle sticks and property damage must be reported using the Incident and Hazard Report Form and entered in the incident register by the end of the shift. Notifiable incidents will be reported to the regulator by the Operations and Compliance Manager without delay and the scene will be preserved until the regulator advises otherwise.
6.Training and review
Every new worker will complete the Luxe safety induction before their first client and will be assessed on chemical handling and infection control within four weeks. Refresher training will run annually and after any change to products or equipment. This policy will be reviewed each year and after any serious incident.
